The most special tribute to Españeta
Valencia CF will remember Españeta during Sunday's game against Getafe. The club will make several homages to their legendary kitman, who now has two special areas of Mestalla dedicated to his memory.
His widow, Charo, and Valencia CF ambassadors Ricardo Arias, Miguel Tendillo and Miguel Ángel Bossio bid him farewell this week as his ashes were scattered at the stadium he considered home. They were the first to see the new decoration of the dressing room and Gate 12, which bear his image.
Charo also penned a letter to her late husband:
"You arrived here when you were almost a child. You've seen so many games and so many seasons, and there have been so many moments that we have experienced together with you. These were your people. This was your stadium. This was your badge.
From a young age you taught us what it meant to love something, to fight to achieve something, and to enjoy it more than anyone.
The way you were meant that you were recognised around the world. I would say to you at home: "You make friends wherever you go."
You were a unique Valencianista. They would tell me that about you in the street. They said that you always explained and shared your great love for this club. This club was always with you, and always will be. You were, and you are, part of the history of this great family.
Now you have been laid to rest at your home. On such a special day, we know that you will always be with us."
Pre-match tributes
Valencia CF vs. Getafe CF will be the first match to be played at Mestalla since Españeta's passing, and before kick-off the captains will lay a wreath on a chair that will be installed next to the dugout, where Españeta used to watch Valencia CF in action.
In addition, a minute's silence will be observed in memory of the emblematic Valencianista before the opening whistle. Players will also wear black armbands during the match.
